Jim Papandrea has been in Hampton Bays since 1960. In that time he has become an integral part of the community. He is a member of the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus and the Michaelangelo Lodge. He initiated the painting of the American flag on the Hampton Bays water tower in the months following 9/11 and was an organizer of the ceremony to commemorate it. He has been honored as both the Grand Marshall and the Guest Speaker by the American Legion at their Memorial Day Parade.
Jim's roots to Italy can be traced through his parents to Reggio, Calabria. His father, John was known throughout Hampton Bays for his magnificent tomato and vegetable garden.
Jim served in the United States Marine Corp in World War II. Fighting in the South Pacific in battles on Saipan, the Marshall Islands, and wounded on Tinian, he earned a Purple Heart. Returning home he joined Local 3, IBEW, where he became an electrician and retired as a business representative.
Married for almost 62 years to Rosemary, Jim has four children, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
